Luke Bishop-Squash

Luke Bishop is a semi-professional squash player from Taunton, who with the support of Richard Huish College has been attending strength and conditioning sessions since the summer, after identifying that that was potentially the key to helping him achieve his goals.

Luke’s main aim in the next year initially  is to enter the top 300 in the world. His current ranking is 312 which has improved from 550 in February 2014.  Due to this rise he has set his sights on the top 200.  In addition Luke is also a very good racketball player; a variation of the game of squash which he is currently nationally ranked 12. In 2015 his aim is to be in the top 5.

In September 2014 Luke played in his first  international event in Porto, Portugal, and  as he continues to progress he will be able to play in more prestigious events.

Luke won the South West College Championships two years running whilst a student at Richard Huish, and represented the South West at Loughborough University in the Nationals Championships.

He is also is a 3 times Somerset Champion, as well as winning other crowns such as the Exeter Open, The Cornish Open.  He entered the British Squash Championship for the first time this year, winning his first round before narrowly losing 3-2 in his next match.

Our main aim since working together has been on improving Luke’s power, initially from getting a base of strength, such training that he had not done before.

Following this exercises have become more explosive and squash specific, particularly both upper and lower body plyometrics.

In addition we have looked in to the mechanics of movement and discussed diet and the mental side of sport.
