New Year Fitness Resolution coming to an end?

The third week of the year in many studies is the time when many people (up to 80%) give up on their New Years resolution fitness regime.

So why do people give up so early on their fitness goals. Reasons given in surveys have been a lack of progress; lack of motivation; unsure on what to do and general lack of enjoyment.  The speed of progress can vary amongst individuals but unfortunately the aesthetic physical benefits are often slower to appear than the range of benefits that happen on the inside.

In addition the mental benefits can be immediate. This in turn makes people feel better in themselves; which in turn encourages them to exercise more and leads to an upward spiral of motivation.  The problem comes if the mental battle to start the exercise is bigger than the benefits that come after.

To overcome those mental battles it’s important to focus on the wider benefits of taking part in exercise and realising that doing something is the achievement. If the jeans still feel tight or the t- shirt a bit neat that’s not as important as the process of doing something. All of these other outcomes will come in time.

Often a point in the right direction and some ongoing support can be enough to get people on track to help them achieve their goals both physical and mental.

I appreciate that Personal training for some can seem expensive however when compared to some other things people spend their money on without giving it a second thought and the potential benefits a Personal Training session can provide the relative cost is very small.

Nails-look nice, make you feel good £25
Hair- look nice, make you feel good £30
Coffee-(Based on 1 cup 5 days a week) £60
Alcohol- at home £62 (average cost)
